Hello again loves,
It’s been a while since you’ve heard from me! Sorry for being very M.I.A on here over the past few months, life has been crazy as usual. If you ever want to keep updated with more of my posts then please follow my instagram – ettydiaries (if you ever miss me that much). There has been a LOT going on in terms of university deadlines, placement applications (and placement offer acceptances, EEEEK!) and also celebrating my birthday, Christmas and the New Year!
Can you believe we’re already in March…of 2018? And it’s been snowing…in England?! Crazy! But during this time, I have been using and loving a LOT of different products – mainly beauty products but hey, whats new? So I thought you’d like to hear about some of them on here! So here is just a quick post on some products I have been loving so far this year, let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
The Violet Voss Holy Grail Eyeshadow Palette –
This palette is 100% worthy of its name. If you live and die for warm tones like I do then this palette is a gift from the Gods. It has a beautiful array of both matte and shimmer shadows that are not only extremely pigmented but are also easily buildable and blendable. It has been my go-to palette for both day time and night time looks as the palette itself is so versatile. I cannot recommend this palette enough (as I’m sure you can tell), and IT HAS A MIRROR! This palette is in very high demand, and for good reason too, but it’s still available on BeautyBay for £43!
Laura Lee Cats Pyjamas Eyeshadow Palette –
Sticking with the warm tones, this palette is Laura Lee’s first makeup release and it did not disappoint. It’s a very wearable, travel friendly palette which you can create many looks out of for both day and night. I love the fact that it has black shade as not many smaller palettes include this, as well as a reasonably sized mirror making it perfect for on-the-go. Similar to the Violet Voss , the shades are easily buildable and blendable as well as including a good variety of colours to create different looks with. It’s also worth mentioning that the packaging is gorgeous and is very aesthetically pleasing for any self-proclaimed makeup-aholic. It’s available on BeautyBay for £35, but if you were debating between the Violet Voss and this, I would choose the Violet Voss as you get more bang for your buck (but me being me I had to get both anyway!)
E.L.F Mineral Infused Face Primer –
I am still yet to figure out what a primer truly does and if it makes a difference…but in saying that I still really love this product. It has a silicone-like texture when you apply it which I personally like, and it visibly smoothes, blurs and magnifies my skin. It also isn’t scented or coloured which I personally like and I really love the way it feels on my skin. It’s fairly affordable and you can get it from Superdrug for £7.50.
Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Ultra-Longwear Foundation –
If you’re looking for full coverage, look no further. This foundation is no joke when it comes to covering imperfections. I have a lot of redness and this covers it without any problem. It’s a matte finish which is good for me personally as I have normal to oily skin but if you use it with a hydrating primer it doesn’t completely suck all of the moisture out of your face and you can still look very radiant. The only downside to this foundation is that it doesn’t minimise the pores on my nose, but for the coverage it provides I still think its worth it. It’s quite pricey at £35 so make sure that you get a sample first and test it out before you commit to buying it (which is what I did, student life).
Mac Strobe Cream in ‘Silverlite’ –
I have been loving this for more ‘natural’ makeup days where I want a glow-from-within kind of feeling, but also for full glam looks to add as an extra step before powder highlighting. I rub a small pea sized amount between my ring fingers and dab it on the high points of my cheeks and then blend it out with my Real Techniques beauty sponge. I apply it before applying any powder products so it doesn’t bunch up into balls of product and blends out far more seamlessly. I love the colour of this as I’m pale so it’s perfect for my skin tone and its definitely not a blinding highlight which I also love. It does come in an array of shades to suit your skin tone/preference but this colour is perfect for me for a pearly highlight. It isn’t chunky with glitter and blends out like a dream with a nice glow-sheen to it and it also has moisturising qualities which is an added bonus. I currently have this in a mini size as I got it as part of a Mac gift set at Christmas, but I would definitely repurchase when I run out (which won’t be for a long time cos a small amount of product goes a really long way). You can buy it yourself from Mac for £25.00 (50ml), but if you are a little uncertain, and aren’t an avid ‘strober’ per se, I’d recommend trying the mini version first for £12.00 (30ml).
bareminerals Gen Nude Matte Liquid Lip colour –
I got this gorgeous nudey-pink liquid lipstick of dreams in a set for christmas and my god, the formula is beautiful. It’s moosey without feeling like it will slide around, creamy, lightweight and just feels so comfortable and non-drying on the lips. Not to mention that the colour and scent are beautiful. I love that bareminerals uses more natural ingredients and doesn’t test on animals and you can really feel the difference in quality of these liquid lipsticks compared to others I have tried. I’m sorry I don’t know the shade, but from looking online I’m pretty certain its the shade ‘Bo$$’, which even if it isn’t its still a beautiful colour! The longevity of this liquid lipstick is also impressive and I’ve worn it for hours without having to touch up/the colour bleeding. I couldn’t recommend this lipstick enough, and who said there is such a thing as too many nudes? You can get it from the bareminerals website for £17.00.
NYX Cosmetics Soft Matte Lip Cream –
I’ve been given a few of these recently in some Christmas sets I got over the holidays and for the price these are so good! They have an amazing shade range of nudes, pinks, reds, you name it! The pigment is brilliant for a non-high end brand and the longevity is also good! The only downside to these is that they are not as long wearing or moisturising as some of the more expensive liquid lipsticks, but for their price tag I definitely think they’re worth every penny. I prefer the formula of these to the liquid lingerie range as these are less drying and feel a lot more silky on the lips, which I personally prefer as I hate having dry lips (I am a lip balm addict). I love this dark taupey-nude colour as it goes with every look and is really flattering on my skin tone. I’d highly recommend buying these as your everyday lip products and save your more expensive ones for events as these are also the perfect size for on the go! You can get them from NYX.com or Boots for £6.00.
So that just about wraps up my current beauty favourites! I’d love to hear about what you’ve been loving in the comments below or if you try any of the products I recommend here then let me know how you get on with them! I have some more makeup coming soon (obviously, I’m an addict) so you can expect a review of some sort from me very soon! I hope you’re all looking forward to Spring as much as I am, lets hope thats the last of the snow for this year!
I hope you’re having a lovely day and have a fab week as always!
Love, Holly x
